Eric Kihlstrom
Managing Director, Europe

Eric Kihlstrom serves as the Managing Director of DSI Europe. He has over 20 years of experience in strategy, business planning and new product development. He has held senior positions in both industry and consulting, including companies such as GE, Lockheed Martin, Teleport Communications Group (TCG, now AT&T) and KPMG Consulting.

In response to growing demand from clients outside the US, Eric was hired to open DSI's London office in January 2007. The growing European client list covers a variety of industries including technology, telecoms, media, energy (utilities plus oil and gas), finance and consumer goods. Eric and his team support European clients in the implementation of more sophisticated strategic planning tools to deal with the increasing uncertainty in the European and global markets.

Recently, Eric led the implementation of DSI's Adaptive Strategic Planning (ASP) process for one of the World's largest utilities that is based in Europe. He successfully conducted two pilot programs that eventually led to a roll-out of the process across Group strategy and the company's five major business units. The client is now in a position to respond to the changing market environment quicker than its competitors. The new CEO is very pleased with his company's enhanced strategic planning process and made several major investments as a result of the company's new strategic posture.

Eric has an extensive background in telecommunications and technology. His first scenario planning experience was with a global mobile operator. The company used the scenarios developed by Eric and his team to build a consensus around vital changes to the organizational structure of its largest European operating company. The result was increased strategic flexibility and significant operating cost savings.

Prior to DSI, Eric headed KPMG Consulting's London practice for strategy and business planning in the Communications and Content industries. He worked for European cable companies, global mobile operators, satellite operators and fixed broadband service providers (wireline and wireless). Past satisfied clients include Vodafone, Hughes, SES Astra, Raytheon and smaller entrepreneurial companies. Eric was also a mentor to start-up companies in the "creative industries" on behalf the Greater London Enterprise (a part of the London Development Agency).

Eric has lectured and published his work on the communications industry. Past speaking engagements include industry conference lectures on global satellite services and telephony in emerging markets. He co-authored a report to the UK's Department of Trade and Industry the Broadband Content Feasibility Study. He authored a report to the NorthWest Development Agency (a UK Regional Development Agency) on regional broadband development strategies.

Eric has experience in 29 countries across Europe (East and West), North and South America, Asia and Africa. He holds an MBA in Finance from New York University and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a graduate of GE's Financial Management Program. He has held security clearances in both the United States and United Kingdom.
