Jim Austin
Director, Life Sciences Jim Austin has more than 25 years experience in business strategy and organization development. His expertise is in working with senior management on strategy execution, organization development and new business growth. He is skilled in coaching executives, facilitating management meetings and developing training programs on strategy, marketing communication and organizational change.Prior to joining Decision Strategies International, Jim worked for 12 years at Baxter Healthcare, the last four as vice president of Strategy Development for the Renal Division. Jim has identified new business opportunities, facilitated annual strategy planning processes and worked with senior management on organizational development for this rapidly growing, nearly $2B division. Before Baxter, Jim worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little, Inc., where he led a number of large-scale planning, business development and strategic positioning studies. After college, Jim spent four years as an Economist in the Ministry of Finance, Botswana. Jim holds a B.A. in Economics and Politics from Yale College. He was a Special Student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Urban Studies Department, and received a joint Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. Jim was past Chairman of the Strategic Leadership Forum, a recent board member of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, a past board member of the Board of Directors for the University Club of Chicago and Treasurer of LaSalle Language Academy. He was awarded a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship and was a White House Fellow Regional Finalist. Author of several articles, Jim is a frequent contributor at industry conferences. Jim is a Business Management professor at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, teaching courses on Healthcare Management and Business Strategy. He is also an adjunct faculty at the Stuart Graduate School of Business (Illinois Institute of Technology), where he leads graduate courses on Healthcare Communication Strategies and Healthcare Informatics. |
